After a successful imposition of library fee, now MMU grubs for more! The latest announcement that MMU is planning to impose an annual IT service fee of RM100 from each student starting this trimester has exasperated everyone. Complaints are heard everywhere. But look, the Finance Division can’t hear you; the President can’t hear you. The voice of SRC alone is too soft. Now we need to borrow the foreign force to amplify our voices!

There will be a press conference held at DAP Dun Ayer Keroh Service Centre on this coming Thursday. Press and media will be present at the conference.

Date : July 3, 2008
Time : 12:30PM
Venue : 63-2, Jalan DB1, Taman Bukit Beruang Indah, 75450 Bukit Beruang. (Same row with US Pizza, second last lot)

地点:63-2, Jalan DB1, Taman Bukit Beruang Indah, 75450 Bukit Beruang. (和US Pizza同排, 最后第二间)

FYP judging at UTAR

I was invited by FICT of UTAR to be a judge for the FYP (Final Year Projects) 2008. Three judges and six finalist projects. I saw some little improvement this time compared to the other two I attended previously. I stopped visiting universities, especially UTAR, after the incident of my eye. More here.

Talking to a wall

I had two talks about Ada at MMU (February 25) and UTAR (March 5). Among the local universities I had given talk about Ada, UTAR was the only university where I had given more than 5 talks over the years. According to my previous experience at UTAR, the response from the students were quite good.

On March 5, the talk at UTAR was the worst as if I was talking to walls or stone sculptures. The students were acting very rude by ignoring my talk. They were doing their assignment at the computers instead of listening to my talk. The talk was rescheduled to another venue which was in a computer lab. Nonetheless, I wrapped up the talk quickly. I skipped many parts to take it to the end and at the end of the talk, no one had asked any questions. I asked them some questions instead and of course, they did not know to answer. Obviously, they did not pay any attention at all.

In contrary, the talk at MMU on February 25 received better responses from the students.

Ada Seminar

I gave my last Ada Seminar in March 2005 at MMU Melaka. It has been 3 years since I last active in Ada and Ada projects. It will be a great pleasure to restart any Ada related activities after quite a long inactivity.

This time, I am going to give a talk about Ada at two universities. For more information about the Ada seminars, read here.

Product Seminars

This morning I attended the Panasonic IP Camera Seminar at Panasonic Malaysia in Shah Alam. The drive was smooth but I was lost in Shah Alam trying to locate the place. I did not bring along my GPS but I managed to get to USJ11 where I was a little more familiar with. I took the long way by getting to the Federal Highway, paid the toll and found Panasonic Malaysia at last.

The seminar was organized by Panasonic and its distributor. Not so much of interesting talk. Organization was a little messy but overall good. Speakers were not very well trained and lack of exposure. The entire presentation was not too bad at all and it wasn’t boring as there were some people asking interesting questions. Most important of all was that I managed to establish contacts with Panasonic Malaysia.

Panasonic treated its guest very well with a nice buffet lunch. I took the lunch, washed down with dessert and drinks. Talked to my vendor and to establish closer relationship.

Then I had to rush to Hilton PJ to attend another IP camera event. It was a dealers gathering organized by Axis Communication and one of its distributor in Malaysia. The event was organized in Uncle’s Chili, a restaurant pub. Nice setup and cozy environment. The presentation was presented by Axis Singapore. The presentation was absolutely good and informative. Axis is a Swedish company and its IP cameras are world number 1.

Axis presentation had been very entertaining and educating at the same time. The presenter, Nafis Jasmani, had done a great job.

Axis and its distributor treated their guests very well too. Excellent and delicious food. I had a great “meal” with a beer together with some people I met there. Dessert was great too! The only thing I disliked was that people began to puff cigarette after food and beer. The smoke immediately destroyed the cozy environment and the nice cool air.

I spoke to Nafis before I left. We talked about Axis Developer Program and some technical details. As I understood from him, there are 4 developers in Malaysia developing some vertical Axis solutions. Quite an interesting fact.
