Pox Party

Hurray! Let’s have chicken pox party! Wait a minute… Am I going crazy? Who wants to have chickenpox? Huh… You see. In the past, parents would throw a chicken pox party when their children got chickenpox. The idea was to let other children to contract the virus naturally rather through inoculation. Once a person has contracted chickenpox, he/she will have immunity to chicken pox for the rest of his/her life. The only drawback is that person will have a chance to have shingles when the immunity gets low.

Dmitry has got chickenpox this morning. I didn’t see any when I had bath with him yesterday. So, the doctor gave him one week medical leave and advised him to stay at home. Nowadays people are so afraid to let their children to get chickenpox. This is a sign of overly protective. Children should not be sent back to school. But I personally think that why not as long as the children have no fever and as long as personal hygiene is taken care of.

Lets go spread some virus! He…he… :D

Be careful if you are an adult and has not contracted the pox. Because it can be troublesome, I caught it in late 30s even after vaccination. There is a drug available to lessen the effect, better known as acyclovir.

For kids is not so bad, but for adult can be quite severe at times. More important is to maintain hygienic so that the skin do not get secondary infection that may complicate things a bit.

Thanks. The doctor mentioned about this drug when we were consulting. She said my boy did not require that drug. If I got it, she might give me this.

As the matter of fact, I have not contracted the pox yet! I took care of my wife when she had it many years ago but I did not contract any. I guessed my immunity was in excellent shape.

I am sure you will get it too. ;)

Dmitry and I were sleeping together. I keep a close proximity with him in hope that I will get the pox from him. If I don’t, that means my immune system is still functioning very healthy and strong.

I think the other younger kids are in the incubation period. There are signs of them coming down with it. The youngest has been quite cranky for the past few days.
