Computational Mathematics
I am not a mathematician but I realize and love the beauty of mathematics. Our life and surroundings are all driven and governed by mathematics. How?
Everything in this universe can be modeled using mathematics equation. When we move our fingers, when coins are dropped, when we kick, when two cars collide, and everything. Nothing cannot be modeled by mathematics.
Imagine a ripple on a surface of water. How can we model the ripple using mathematics equation? Consider this simple equation:

This 3D model (QuickTime movie) was generated using this simple equation to model the water ripples. Fascinating, isn’t it? Of course, this is only a simple modeling.
Hi handsomes
They are drop-dead-handsome, aren’t they?
Kenduri
We went to LA’s ex-colleague’s Kenduri (wedding feast) in the morning. There were many people and delicious food. LA’s ex-colleagues came for the feast too. I was the camera man and really enjoyed shooting photos. Here are the photos of some beautiful people at this sweet memorable moment. D and R were enjoying themselves as well.
A bunch of Ada-holes talking
Like last week, a bunch of “Ada-holes” meet up on every Friday midnight (MYT) to discuss about work progress and some jokes. They are Jesse (the team leader), Jeffrey, Jerrid, Chip, Mark and I. Mark and I are from the far east. Mark from Vietnam and the rest are in the U.S.
We discuss mainly on the svn commit guidelines, Ada coding standards and document formats. We have yet to choose either ODF or LyX. The discussion is fruitful and we begin to see a software development process emerging.
It is tiring but fun!
Busy life
Life has been busy on these days. I am trying to bridge work, training, transition, demo and family together. It certainly is a handful.
Training for transition is being conducted with careful planning and most of the students were not aware of the transition until they have been informed a couple of weeks ago. When they received their new gomon last week, they were surprised and excited. I am happy to see the transition is bearing fruits. Thanks to my working experience while I was working as a consultant in transition to Ada (see my blog here).
The preparation for demo has some hitches. The preparation training coincides with school’s mid-term exam following a 2 weeks break starting tomorrow. What a wrong timing!
The rest, I have been tied up with work, family and not so much of my training. I got the chance to train a little when I teach the class.
MacOSForge
I came to know about MacOSForge from Apple’s website a few months ago but this site was not completely up yet. Yesterday, I received an email about MacOSForge from a friend of mine. I was very excited to see MacOSForge to take off.
MacOSForge is Apple’s initiative to create an open source software development community for Mac OS X. Well done Apple!
I hope I would have some projects and more time to contribute to MacOSForge. Perhaps I can make a recipe on how to toast an Apple pie.
One year of blogging
May 20 marks the 1st anniversary of my blogging. Total of 328 posts (including this one) and 330 comments in 50 categories! Not bad at all. Today, I also own a 128-bit integer of my very own. Here’s my 128-bit integer deeded to me:
1C DC 57 78 9F 6C 6C 91 B3 C1 86 F3 28 DD B9 92
Why do I need to own an 128-bit integer for? Seriously, I have no idea at all at this moment. Perhaps, I can use it as encryption key. I will find out some purpose of owning my very own integer! Or perhaps people can call me by that number instead of my name. Or perhaps I can tattoo this barcode onto myself. Cool!

If you want, you can get one here. Please tell me if you find out its use.
Software Engineering Management Task
I had a good long session of Skype with my team leader, Jesse, this morning. We had a good chat about some software development process and how I can help to grow the team. Growth not in size but technical competency, skills, confidence and sense of belonging as a team.
I am glad that I can use my SE experience to enhance the team. Although I have a head on both technical and management shoulder, I prefer development to management. But somehow, I quite like management once in a full moon. What an ironic interest in contrast!
Now, I am off to define a SVN commit guidelines for our team. The document is one page in length at this moment and I hope to finish at least some outlines by end of the day. This will be the first piece of such work (due to limited time for me to sit down and write) and I wish I can share it on my blog to benefit not only our development team but also some people. I will ask permission from my employer to post the guidelines. So keep your fingers crossed.
Sub-standard health care
For some reasons, my dad went for his routine health check at the Community Polyclinic at Pantai Peringgit. Yesterday, he was prescribed Diclofenac Sodium. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduced inflammation and an analgesic reducing pain in condition as such arthritis or acute injuries.
My dad had an experience with it after taking, he developed allergic reactions with swollen eyes and asthmatic. I sent him to the General Hospital the last time and I was told that he was allergic to this drug.
Yesterday, he took one tablet after coming home from the polyclinic and he developed the allergic reaction again in the evening. Mom called me to send him to the hospital but I was caught with 1 really hungry mom and 3 hungry dinos at Pak Putra. Thanks to BS for taking him to the hospital.
After our dinner, I visited him at the A&E. He was after the nebulizer but his eyes were still swollen and teary. We waited until 2100 and no doctor was attending him. I had to send the kids home so I did. Not long after we arrived at home, BS called and said they were going home.
How could the doctor(s) prescribed him the medicines again? Our government is talking about the implementation of a digital hospital. That’s a good project to reduce such miscommunication among doctors, clinics and hospitals where patients’ information will be shared. But they are taking too long to implement it. They have been talking for years since Wawasan 2020 which was conceptualized around mid 1990s. There is another 13 years to go.
Flash flood
Last night and this morning were unusually humid and hot. After sending D to school, it began to rain heavily. After LA and kids finished their lunch, LA noticed the water level had risen. She alerted me and quickly we started to move stuff on the floor. Another inch the water would have enter the house at the car porch. Some water had enter from the rear entrance and the rear bathroom was already flooded. Dead cockroaches were floating in the water. An awful sight, but D and N were excited.
Thanks grandma and uncle BS for coming to help.
It was about 4 years ago when the last flood came. D was still a baby. So this was the second time for D and first time for Rich and Nik.
We are all fine and in good health and at this moment as I am writing this post, the water has subsided and we have cleaned up all the mess. No losses of property.
This is the 5th time our area was flooded. Can you imagine how the hell can Bukit Beruang (our area is supposed on the high ground!) get flooded? This area has been heavily developed with more houses and high rise apartments. Tress have been chopped down. When the city council approved the plan for development, their oversight on irrigation systems has caused this inconveniences. What a GREAT! job they have done! Despite of previous floods, nothing has been done to improve the irrigation system. So incompetence and ignorant.
