Desperately trying to get this to work but not having much luck.
Setting up the tunnel with SSHTunnel seems to work. It tells me it is connected but when I change the settings in Mail (OS 10.5) the localhost smtp server does not connect. In Terminal I get the message "channel 3: open failed: connect failed: Connection refused". Any ideas?

Dear Adrian,

Thanks for the tips. It is a nice article. At first, I was quite confused by the port number until I read your blog. I have more confidence now when I surf and email on public wireless hotspots. I even tunnel my port 20 (http). Great!

I will come back more often.

Best regards,
